Doggone Experience

My sister just got a dog. She got two of them. She bought a Yorkie and a Dachshund. Everytime I spoke to her on the phone, all she talked about was her dogs. That made me want to get one myself too. At first, I was so unsure...I never had a dog in my life. I was always a cat person. That is another story to tell, later. My daugher, Tifani was a dog lover. She loved any dog in sight. I had to stop her from kissing and hugging all the street dogs we'd meet in the Philippines. But I always had a tragic experience with dogs.

When I was a kid, we had a beautiful dog called Lassie. She just looked like the movie star dog in the TV show called "Lassie". But alas, Lassie could not live long. In a country where dogs were a delicacy, Lassie just dissappeared. And we suspected one of our neighbors barbecued her already. Eoooouuwwwww! I could never get over the thought of it. Y'see, in my country, some people do eat dogs, but not everyone! And they never touch their dogs, but their neighbor's dogs! Sick, isn't it?

So it was not surprising when I moved to Germany with my ex-husband, everyone looked at me with disdain because I was coming from a country of dog eaters. Germany was a country of dog lovers. My eyes popped out when I saw a Dog Reformhouse where they were selling all the dog delicacies like diet dog chocolates or diabetic dog nurtritous treats.

In fact, when i was introduced to my ex-sister-in-law, first thing she told me was "Stay away from our dog!" "The nerve and the ignorance!", I thought to myself. Fresh from the Philippines, I just kept on smiling and pretended not to understand her threats.

She repeated year after the year her warning, that after 3 years, I was able to muster enough German swear words that I told her off swearing in all the languages and dialect I could muster dumping her on the dog pound! I couldn't take her crap anymore and she'd better get off my back, I retaliated! Besides, it was her brother, my ex-husband who ate dogs and was rather proud of it, not me! That ended the story and she never was on my dog case again.
